  • I'm Tara, lifestyle and wedding photographer and lover of life. I am a "people person" through and through, and I am so thankful for those who allow me to be a part of their journey through my photography. On this blog you'll find favorites from my recent photo sessions or weddings and most likely, the occasional random post about the latest and greatest happenings in my little life.

I would love to connect with you, so please leave a comment or use the contact form to say hello! And, if I can help to tell your story I would love to talk with you about booking a session. Thanks for stopping by... I hope you'll stay a while!

Emily | Maternity

Emily’s husband Brad is Ben’s bestie from high school. (I am certain my husband would not approve of me using the term “bestie”… oh well). Brad met Emily when he moved out West, they fell in love, and had a small wedding in her home town of San Diego one year ago (today!). We got to meet Emily for the first time just a few months ago and let me tell you, I love her. Emily and Brad are expecting their first bundle o’ joy in a little less than a month! Emily realized she hadn’t taken any photos of her pregnancy other than on her iPhone, so I was happy to snap a few for her last week.

We met up at the family farm (I blogged about the wonders of the farm earlier this year) and the day was really perfect. We spent about an hour trekking through the buttercup-filled fields and spent an extra hour chatting about a common love of ours, adoption– and then, the rainstorm came and kicked us out! Honestly though, a shoot right before a rainstorm offers some lovely cloud-cover… so I thank you, rain.:)

To say you are beautiful, Emily, is an understatement.

Not only is she gorgeous, she’s just so much fun…

(do you see what I mean? buttercups + field. so good.)

So excited for you, Emily & Brad. I can’t wait to meet that sweet baby boy!:)

Whitney + Scott | Engagement

They dated in High School, and like a lot of young love stories, it didn’t last. They went their separate ways throughout college and beyond… but that wasn’t it for Whitney and Scott. Years later they reconnected, fell in love, and are now planning an October wedding. They are one of the sweetest couples and I am so excited for them!

For their engagement session we went down to Bay Ridge Beach in Annapolis. It’s one of the nicest spots in Annapolis, I think, where you can see Thomas Point Lighthouse and the Bay Bridge in the distance. And I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, I love the beach. So this shoot was a breeze. Good company, good location, and good weather.:)

I will never tire of living near the water.

I’ve really got to stop photographing people with gorgeous blue eyes. It makes me terribly envious…

The bling!

Showing a little DC pride!

Thank you my friends, for letting me do your engagement shoot. It was such a wonderful day! So excited for October!:)

on Mother’s Day

I know this is a photography blog, not a personal blog- but this weekend is Mother’s Day and I felt compelled to give a hearty “well-done” on here for all you mothers who follow my little blog. Maybe because my “aunt/mom” was such an influence in my love of photography (you can read more about that on my About Me page). Either way… I just felt like giving a Mother’s Day shout-out… hope that’s okay.:)

It’s astounding the amount of mother’s I know. And let me tell you, this girl, who is not a mother, truly recognizes the hard work it is to be a mom. I may not understand it first hand, but even I can see- you people are superheroes. In the last few years, the number of mother’s I know has really grown, as so many of my friends have become moms. Girls, you amaze me. Truly, I am amazed by how well you mother, how well you love your babies. I am so proud of so many of my sweet friends who just dove head first into the wonders of motherhood and have paved the way just beautifully. I am amazed by you and terrified to do it myself, but excited for when the time comes. Honestly, it’s you who make me think… maybe I could do this someday.

And then there are the mothers who have mothered well for years and years. Some of my dearest friends are their daughters and they are truly the ones who inspire and lead. There are so many amazing women in my life who have really treated me with such love and nurturing over the years, there’s nothing to call it but “mothering”. They have allowed me to cry on their shoulders, laughed with me, spoken the truth in love- correcting me and encouraging me, they have taught me to sew & bake, how to love others well, they have listened to me, and shared with me, and challenged me.

And then, there is my mother. My mother passed away when I was just about 4 years old. And the day that it happened, I asked her sister… my aunt… Carolyn… “Does that mean you’ll be my mom now?” And her response was simple, strong, “Yes. It does.”

And she has been. A wonderful mother. I am thankful today for all of you mothers. Whether you’re expecting your first child this year or you have children who have children, thank you. Thank you for all you have taught me and the ways you have loved me. I am thankful for my sweet mother-in-law. And I am thankful for you, Carolyn, for being the best mother for me.

me & my Carolyn

Happy Mother’s Day, moms.

Sarah + David | Day After Session, Ocean City

I have to say, I love a good excuse to spend the day at the beach. I was in Sarah and David’s wedding last September and the day was just beautiful. But Sarah wanted to have a little fun taking pictures in her dress after the worry of keeping the dress perfect on wedding day was no longer a concern. So, we did a “Trash the Dress Session”, but we didn’t light her dress on fire or smear it with tar. Really, it’s nothing a little Tide won’t fix! So “trash” seems such a harsh word. Lots of photographers call it a “Day After Session”- just a fun, cleaner way, to get portraits of the bride and groom after the wedding day. I will admit Sarah’s dress got a little black around the bottom… so I think we could call this a “Day After/Trashing mash-up”. The truth is, I agonized for far too long about what to call this post and finally settled on Day After… It’s still up for debate though.:)

I was excited when Sarah wanted her session to take place at a carnival! So fun! And where is there a carnival? Ocean City Maryland, of course! We made a day of it, drove down to the beach, ate lots of delish food, and got to take some fun photos!

These are a must-have whenever I go to Ocean City…

I literally lost my balance while snapping this, which is why it’s so off-kilter, but I kind of like how it turned out!

A little friendly competition…

I don’t know what I love more- the Chuck Taylor’s or the sweet shades… But I do think the one of them smooching in front of the stuffed animal prize display, is my favorite.:)

They even braved the freezing water, (at least a little).:)

So much fun, thanks for spending a day at the beach with me, Sarah and David!

Corey + Tim | University of Maryland Engagement

Corey was a part of my staff last summer at camp. I was honored when she and Tim asked me to shoot their wedding. Their engagement session was so fun, mostly because I got to spend a few hours catching up with Corey! I had only just met Tim the day of the shoot but he quickly warmed up- and another friend who attends the University of Maryland joined us for the day too (thanks for holding all my stuff, Kellan!) so, yes, such a fun afternoon. It was a gorgeous day (and by gorgeous I mean one of those 80 degree days in April)… and these two were just the cutest.

Corey and Tim are both seniors at UMD so it was quite fitting to do the shoot on campus. They will both graduate this May and get married this September… exciting year!:)

Sometimes, I feel like randomly throwing in a lone black & white really messes with the flow of the post. And then sometimes, I feel that it’s just too good not to share…

We had to get some of those quintessential campus shots- including some in front of the buildings where they both spent so many hours of class time!

And finally we visited McKeldin Library, you know, to showcase their years of diligent study!:)

So excited for September!
